The horse being one of the oldest forms of transport, it therefore is true to say that horse racing is also a very old sport. In ancient times this sport was for the royals. The most common type of horse racing is the Thoroughbred. The jockey is well mounted on the horse and its weight is borne by the horse as it enters the competition. Flat and jump are the two categories in the thoroughbred horse racing.

The other type of horse racing is the harness racing. Here the horse has to drag a cart and a jockey in it when competing. This type of racing is not very common. It has to be done by specially trained horses as the weight is very heavy.
Horse racing is very popular in some countries. You will find racing grounds that are very advanced in technology in these countries.
